COUGAR MARCHING BAND

Director of Bands: Mike Ouellette
Assistant Director: Ray Jones
Assistant Director/Percussion Instructor: Tom Fesler
Color Guard Instructor: Robert Strain

The Cinco Ranch High School Cougar Band is one of the most successful high school marching bands in the state of Texas. The marching band is part of a comprehensive music program and consists of almost 300 students (winds, percussion, color guard, and drum majors). The band takes great pride in representing our school and our community by performing at all varsity football games, pep rallies, the UIL contest, and other contests and events.

The marching band is open to any Cinco Ranch High School student who has passed a proficiency audition. Auditions are held in the spring for instrumentalist and auxiliary personnel for the next fall semester. All marching band members must be enrolled in a band during the first semester. All members of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic, and Concert bands must participate in the marching band. Eligibility, attendance, participation, music proficiency, and marching abilities will be the determining factors in who performs.

In the spring, incoming freshmen participate in a freshman band camp and orientation. The purpose of this camp is to teach basic marching fundamentals, and to prepare incoming freshmen students for assimilation into summer band rehearsals.

Summer band rehearsals begin the first full week of August (check the Charms public calendar for times). Once school starts, full marching band rehearsals will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 each afternoon three days a week.  Additional rehearsals and/or sectionals may be scheduled by the director, to assist in teaching the music or the marching.

The camps and rehearsals are all conducted under the strict rules of the University Interscholastic Leagues (UIL) guidelines, which governs how many hours the students can practice each week. UIL rules also maintain that every student must maintain a passing grade in all scholastic work in order to participate in the band. As such, the band program also encourages rigorous study habits.
